Nature & Heritage Tour to the Wairau Lagoon
A scenic tour by van to the Wairau Lagoon, Marlborough with a natural history commentary from your local guide.
This is the first known point of human occupation in New Zealand by the Polynesian people. Hear from your guide the stories of the resourceful early indigenous settlers and the later arrival of Europeans such as the whalers and cattle drovers. There are many facinating stories to be shared.
A private access road will take you through the Vernon Farm Station, one of Marlborough’s earliest sheep and cattle farms, to the shores of the Wairau Lagoon and Te Koko-o-Kupe, Cloudy Bay. Learn about New Zealand sheep and cattle farming.
Take photos from the scenic lookout at Jamie's Knob which offers magnificent views of the Wairau and Awatere Valleys, Mount Tapuae-o-Uenuku and across the Cook Strait to the North Island.
Enjoy home baking for morning tea before you explore the private beach beneath Te Parinui o Whiti (the towering White Bluffs).
The tour departs in the morning giving you to time to spend the afternoon wine tasting or relaxing.

Times are an example only:
9.00am Pick up and safety and environmental briefing before departing on your scenic tour.
9.30am Drive to the Vernon Station past one of the oldest homesteads in Marlborough.
9.45am Weather permitting drive to the look out point of Jamie's knob taking in views of the Wairau, Awatere and Cloudy Bay to the North Island. Your guide will point our the landmarks.
10.00am Drive to the foot of the White Bluff for morning tea of homemade muffin and tea or coffee. Hear stories of the early settlers.
10.30pm Take a guided walk with your guide into the conservation reserve and learn about the wildlife and the plants.
12.15pm Return to Blenheim along the edge of the Wairau Lagoon.
1.00pm Drop off at Blenheim or Picton and farewell.
