Alpine Flora Tour of the South Island (4 Day)
Summer is the best time to see the alpine flora of New Zealand. Your passionate flora guide Rebecca Bowater is a local authority on alpine flora and an award winning nature photographer.
She won the Geoff Moon Trophy from the New Zealand Photographic Society for her picture of a icicle fungus at Pelorus Bridge in 2009 and was awarded a AFIAP photography award in 2013.
Your driver Will Parsons is an experienced driver on rural roads, having farmed for many years on hill country. He is also knowledgeable about the wildlife and history of this area.
See some of the best alpine flora at above 1000m on the herb fields of the Black Birch. Over night at a high country sheep station in shearers quarters and enjoy warm farm hospitality.
Sit back and enjoy a guided drive through the expansive Molesworth Station, you will be given a commentary of the history of this fascinating high country farm. Visit the slopes of the Amuri ski field for alpine specialties before reaching the cozy little hot spring resort of Hanmer Springs for the second night.
There will be a field trip to Lake Tennyson and St James Station. An exciting day with many alpine flora treasures to be discovered on accessible shingle screes.
We return to Blenheim via the inland Kaikouras, taking an easy and beautiful walk into a lime stone valley which is well known for its endemic plants life and unique geology.
